Robert C. "Clint" Coyan was born January 16, 1870, at Ottumwa, Iowa in Wapello county. At the age of nine he came with his parents, Hugh and Sarah Garrett Coyan, to Mapleton, Kansas, arriving in a covered wagon.
On December 20, 1911, at the age of 41, Robert married Grace Spillman. With the exception of two years spent in Washington state, he farmed in the Mapleton area until 1940, when he moved into rural Fort Scott, KS. In 1954 they moved into Fort Scott. Robert and Grace were the parents of 5 children. They are:

Olive (Coyan) Dobbins (1913-)
Ora Rothwell Coyan (1916-1995)
Robert Clois "Tot" Coyan (1915-)
Dorothy Valentine (Coyan) Brohan (1919-)
Robert Clinton Coyan passed away on November 5, 1961 at his home in Ft. Scott, KS. His wife, Grace (Spillman) Coyan, passed away on April 1, 1974.
